The inspiration to put solar panels on my roof in 2011 was inspired by my work in the environmental non-profit sector. The ‘payback period’ was not, and still isn’t today, a consideration for making the decision to install those panels. The long-term impact of humanity on our planet is the payback I used, along with Federal and State financial incentives, to make my solar purchase decision.

I have since moved from that location, and am so happy that the
new homeowners get to take advantage of the power produced from those panels. Gathering three bids for my first solar panel purchase opened my eyes to the vast difference in how estimates are made to determine the potential solar generating power, as well as the installation plan that can make a big difference in choosing an installer.

I recently moved and took advantage of the 2017 tax credits again. With 19 solar panels on my roof, I’m incredibly happy with an $11.00 per month electricity bill. Pacific Power puts any leftover kilowatts that I don’t use by the end of February into their Warming Program that helps other folks who need financial help with electricity costs.

Given the anticipated increasing cost of electricity, I don’t need to worry about anything except my electricity usage. When I’m conscious of how I use electricity, my panels generate 100% (and sometimes a bit more that goes back to the Warming Program) of my annual usage. Again, the monthly bill of $10.95 is well with my budget!

When it comes time to sell my current home, those panels will serve as tremendous added value that most homes do not have. I can demonstrate that the panels are a great way to save money on a home that perhaps might otherwise be out of financial range for a potential buyer.

I will always promote solar panels and tax incentives to get panels onto every roof where it makes solar sense.
